A NEW ERA BEGINS: Daison Pursley Eager to Build Himself into Kasey Kahne Racing’s Next Superstar
MOORESVILLE, NC. (March 8, 2026) – A top-tier organization for two decades now, Kasey Kahne Racing w/ Mike Curb is one of the few gold standards when it comes to sprint car teams. Between iconic brands on the cars, elite crew chiefs spinning the wrenches, or legendary drivers behind the wheel, KKR demands excellence and they’re used to championship results.
In 2026, a new era begins with Daison Pursley set to drive the NAPA Auto Parts No. 9 in pursuit of the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing title. It’s a daunting yet humbling task that the 21-year-old native of Locust Grove, Oklahoma is ready to take on.
“It’s definitely in the back of my mind that Kasey Kahne Racing has worked with all of these Hall of Fame drivers like Brad Sweet, Daryn Pittman, Joey Saldana, guys who have won the crown jewel races and taken home championships,” Pursley admitted. “It’s cool to put myself in the same category as them. I think that any kid who grows up dreaming about becoming a Sprint Car driver wants to be in this exact position I’m in, so there’s a lot to be grateful for.
The way I look at it, though, is you can get fired at any given time no matter your situation in this sport. and I say that in a motivating way. I know that I need to perform night-in and night-out, consistently show up and do my job, continue to learn, and take all of Kasey’s knowledge that he has to offer me. Hopefully this is a long-term place for me to build my career in winged sprint car racing.”
Taking advantage of as many opportunities as possible to get comfortable before the High Limit season begins, Pursley has already hit nine World of Outlaws events since joining KKR last fall. The results have steadily improved with a top-five at Volusia (Fla.) Speedway Park and a top-10 at Talladega (Ala.) Short Track coming at the beginning of March.
Much of that quick success Pursley credits to his familiarity with KKR crew members Jarrett Martin, Ryan Boyd, and Tayte Williamson.
“I think me having already built a relationship with the guys and being around the shop so much in the off-season has helped us speed things up,” he mentioned. “I worked with Jarrett for so long on the midget side of things, got to know Ryan when I was with Chad Boat, and I raced against Tayte back in Indiana, too. The six races we’ve run this year have turned out good and the results show that we are getting better so I think there is a lot to be excited for.”
Amazingly enough, Pursley still has less than 100 career winged sprint car starts under his belt. His first full-time season last year produced the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Rookie of the Year Award and his first-career High Limit victory at Lernerville (Penn.) Speedway with Buch Motorsports. Now at KKR, he’s focused on forming that consistency his new team is so used to.
“The biggest thing I want to push myself for and hold to a high standard is consistency across all the different types of tracks we go to,” he added. “I want to be able to be in contention whether we are racing at a choppy California bullring or a slick Pennsylvania half-mile. I think finishing every race is the first step to being able to get there. I just want to build a consistent notebook and hopefully build this into one of those championship seasons that KKR has gotten familiar with.”
Daison’s 2026 Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing season officially opens with the SugarBee Blackjack Bash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 12-14 during NASCAR weekend. The 65-race tour will criss-cross the country for eight months before concluding with the All-In Championship Weekend at Texas Motor Speedway on October 16-17.
