SUNSHINE’S BACK, TELL A FRIEND: Recovered and Ready Tyler Courtney Sets Sights on High Limit Championship

MOORESVILLE, NC. (March 7, 2026) – After a six-month recovery due to injuries sustained in a violent crash at Eldora Speedway last July, Tyler Courtney is back behind the wheel of the Clauson-Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink No. 7BC sprint car.

While “Sunshine” has quickly gotten back in the business of winning races and setting his sights on the 2026 Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing championship, the 31-year-old native of Indianapolis, IN is more grateful than ever.

“I don’t even know how to explain how much more it makes you appreciate everything,” Courtney said reflecting on his time away from the seat. “I love this sport for the good and the bad, because I’ve experienced both. Watching someone else drive your race car hurts, though. One day you’re just going through the motions of your job and then all of a sudden it’s taken from you. It’s definitely made me appreciate my ride, my car owners, my sponsors, my crew guys, my friends, every single lap that I get to make that much more. You know, I had it taken away for six months, but I think at the same time okay it was only six months. It could have been a lot worse. I’m grateful to be back on the track doing what I love.”

Returning to the seat during the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, Courtney came out of the gates firing with back-to-back victories against the American Sprint Car Series, enough to earn the 360 Big Gator Championship.

“It probably wasn’t until the feature that I thought I was back to where I needed to be,” he said of his skills behind the wheel. “I call you that I immediately felt at home firing it off and just letting the car run. That first night in the feature, though, is when I felt the feeling of comfortability I was so used to and really remembering what I was doing. I knew that I would need to sharpen myself up for the pace of 410s and that’s why we went back with the Outlaws to just log laps. I think I accomplished everything I needed to be 100% ready for Vegas.”

Back in the seat full-time, Courtney’s now fully focused on battling for the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing championship this season. Between USAC crowns, All Star Circuits of Champions titles, and even Roto-Rooter Midweek Series glory, he and the CMR team are plenty familiar with earning championships in the No. 7BC.

Over the past two years, “Sunshine” has been right in the hunt for High Limit championships won by Brad Sweet in 2024 and Rico Abreu in 2025. That first year he led the points into the month of June and last year he was only 12-points out of the lead before he was injured.

“I think we have the right formula, we just have to contain our consistency and carrying that through the west coast will be most crucial,” he added on his title aspirations. “Looking back at last year I think we were on track, I mean we were battling for the points lead, had just clicked off our first win, and our consistency was flowing. We just have to continue running well where we should and improving where we struggle. As a team, we’ve put a big emphasis on the west coast and I think the car made strides last year with Gio in it. Qualifying will be a big focus as well, it’s so important to be in the Dash with how deep the High Limit roster is now.”

Tyler’s 2026 Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing season officially opens with the SugarBee Blackjack Bash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 12-14 during NASCAR weekend. The 65-race tour will criss-cross the country for eight months before concluding with the All-In Championship Weekend at Texas Motor Speedway on October 16-17. Fans can buy pre-sale event tickets, which enters you for a chance to be selected for the DURST Dice Roll, by clicking here.

Earning the third ranked membership across the 2024-25 seasons, Clauson-Marshall Racing holds the ‘Queen’ card, worth a guaranteed $300,000 payout in the inaugural season of the High Roller Club. Their finish this year will combine with last year (4th) to determine the 2027 card rankings when the value of the top-10 cards jump to a total of $2,925,000 - making every single point extra valuable.
