WHAT’S ON THE TABLE: This Weekend’s $126,000 Skagit Nationals is Richest Payday in Kubota High Limit Racing History

BURLINGTON, WASH. (August 27, 2025) – The nine-race west coast swing for Kubota High Limit Racing concludes with a bang this weekend at Washington’s Skagit Nationals with a $126,000-to-win Skagit Nationals.

Let's look at what's on the table entering the weekend:

HISTORIC PAYDAY: With a $454,450 total purse and winners share of $126,000, Saturday’s Skagit Nationals will become the highest-payday in Kubota High Limit Racing history and the highest-payday ever produced in the history of west coast sprint car racing, too. The previous record for both belongs to last year’s Skagit Nationals which paid out $102,626.26 to Rico Abreu.

Preliminary events will pay $10,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start on Thursday and then $20,000-to-win, $2,000-to-start on Friday. Come Saturday night, the $126,000-to-win finale bolsters a full A-Main purse of $300,000 with notable payouts including $40,000 for runner-up, $26,000 for third, $10,000 for fifth, $6,000 for tenth, and $3,000 for taking the green flag.

THE SKAGIT FORMAT: A three-day show with big money means another unqiue format for Kubota High Limit Racing. The Skagit Nationals will combine bits and pieces of the Gold Cup Race of Champions and Knoxville Nationals with points, inverts, and lock-ins.

Drivers will compete every night from Thursday to Saturday with the two preliminary programs setting the stage for the $126,000-to-win finale. Like last week, a six-car inversion will be applied to Heat Races with the top-five finishers transferring to the prelim A-Mains. Another invert will be applied to the prelim A-Mains based off points among transfers.

The point table will be identical to the Knoxville Nationals with Qualifying and A-Main both paying 200 to win, down by 2 per position and then Heats paying 100 to win, down by 3 per position. After Friday, the top-four in points will lock-in for Saturday’s Dash while everyone else goes to Qualifiers with the top-4 transferring to the $3,000-to-start finale with the winners joining the Dash.

CHAMPIONSHIP CHASE: After points took a weekend off at Gold Cup, they’re back on the line for all 19 races remaining this season with Kubota High Limit Racing. While every spot matters in determining the Franchise System positions for next year, they’re still vital to the points fund this year which features top-5 payments of $250,000 to the champion team, $125,000 for runner-up, $100,000 for third, $87,500 for fourth, and $80,000 for fifth.

The Kasey Kahne Racing #49 remains atop the standings with a 21-point cushion entering the Skagit Nationals. Driver Brad Sweet has always excelled at the Washington oval with an average finish of 5.7 in 29 tries highlighted by a pair of victories.

The Ridge & Sons Racing #87 is their closest contender at 21-points behind the KKR #49. At least for one more weekend, “Super Sub” Justin Sanders will continue filling-in for Aaron Reutzel as his foot recovers at home in Iowa. The Californian is a two-time winner at Skagit, including the 2023 Dirt Cup title.

The Clauson-Marshall Racing #7BC is right there with the front two, only 31-points out of the championship lead. With Tyler Courtney recovering for the rest of the season, all the points weight lies on Giovanni Scelzi through the season finale at Texas on October 17-18. “Hot Sauce” has only raced one weekend at Skagit Speedway in his career, but it was productive one that included a 2023 World of Outlaws podium.

The Rico Abreu Racing #24 is down to 79-points from the top spot after struggling through the opening weekend in California. On the bright side, what’s next is six nights at two of Rico’s best tracks between the Skagit Nationals and Tuscorora 50 – two events he won back-to-back last year. The #24 team has won three of their last five starts at Skagit Speedway entering this weekend.

The Murray-Marks Motorsports #19 is on the climb again, now 104-points behind the championship leader. Fresh off his frst-career win on the west coast at Douglas County on Monday, Marks heads to Skagit with lots of momentum before the Tuscarora 50 and Commonwealth Clash give him plenty of R&R time at home.

FRANCHISE BY COMMITTEE: Since the departure of Spencer Bayston, the future for Jason Meyers Racing with Kubota High Limit Racing wasn’t fully known – that is until the team dropped a four-man roster, who will share the driving duties of the #14 for the last 19 races, on Tuesday evening.

For one weekend only, 2013 World of Outlaws champion Daryn Pittman will pilot the JMR #14 at the upcoming Skagit Nationals. In 20 starts at the Burlington, WA facility, Pittman has 17 top-10 finishes, seven top-five results, and a pair of victories in 2017 and 2018.

After Skagit, Washingtonian Trey Starks will fly cross-country to also take command of the #14 for one weekend only at Port Royal Speedway’s Tuscarora 50 on September 4-6. The reigning Dirt Cup champion is no stranger to the Pennsylvania scene, being a two-time winner at “The Speed Palace” with one of those being the 2019 Night Before the Tusky 50.

Following Pittman and Starks, and assuming the largest load of responsibility, is the “super sub” Justin Sanders – who has recently filled-in for Aaron Reutzel’s Ridge & Sons Racing #87 with immense success on the west coast. The Aromas, CA native will drive the JMR #14 at Lernerville Speedway (9/12-13), Eldora Speedway (9/19-20), Lakeside Speedway (10/10-11), and Texas Motor Speedway (10/17-18).

In between Sanders’ starts, JMR’s original star, Corey Day, will compete in another four Kubota High Limit Racing events. The 19-year-old phenom is set to run the car at Lawrenceburg Speedway (9/17), Bridgeport Motorsports Park (9/27), Path Valley Speedway Park (9/28), and Lucas Oil Speedway (10/15) while juggling NASCAR commitments.

The Jason Meyers Racing #14 team is currently ninth in the 2025 championship standings, only five-points behind the Buch Motorsports #13 for eighth. They currently hold the seventh-place Franchise for 2026, valued at $220,000 – but another spot in points would bump them to the sixth-place Franchise, valued at $240,000 next year.

TRIPLE CROWN CHANCE: While the Skagit Nationals brings in a heap of national stars with Kubota High Limit Racing, all eyes are going to be keeping an eye on Washington’s own Trey Starks this weekend. The Puyallup, WA native has a chance to become the first driver in history to sweep all three of Skagit Speedway’s biggest races in a single season.

A seven-time winner at the track this year, Starks most notably won the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup with NARC in June – earning a $111,626 payday in the process. After that, he topped the Fred Brownfield 360 Nationals in July for another $26,000 check. This weekend, he’s chasing a $126,000 payday as the Skagit Nationals offer the richest payday in series history – a series he’s already beaten twice last year in Washington.

Starks’ weekend will be even busier than originally planned as he’ll provide a second #55XL entry for his friend, Dominic Scelzi.

DIRT CUP LAPS: June’s Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup is always an interesting predecessor to the Skagit Nationals. Trey Starks ended up winning that $111,626 feature with NARC over podium finishers Tanner Holmes and James McFadden, both of whom will be battling for the Skagit Nationals title this weekend.

Other racers with notable Dirt Cup runs that plan to race the Skagit Nationals include Justin Sanders, Colton Heath, Joel Myers Jr, Brent Marks, Levi Klatt, Justin Peck, Jason Solwold, Robbie Price, Cam Smith, Jesse Schlotfeldt, and Landon Brooks.
