MOM & POP SHOP: Danny Sams III Living High Limit Dreams with Parents at his Side in 2025

The family members of national touring drivers are involved in their child’s career via numerous ways. Maybe it’s selling the merchandising, watching the kids, managing the expenses, driving the motorhome, or simply being there to support them; but Danny Sams III’s parents get down in the dirt with him.

As the 22-year-old North Port, Florida native prepares to join Kubota High Limit Racing on a full-time basis in 2025 – beginning next week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 13 & 15 – he’ll have the privilege of dad Danny Sams Jr. and mom Tina Sams working on the car. Joining car owner Rocky Anderson’s family oriented #24D this year is also Australian Ben Micallef to take some of the ease off Danny with more intense driving duties coming his way.

A few different ride offers were available to Sams over the off-season, which would’ve taken the workload off his parents, but when decision day came everyone agreed they loved what they built as a family.

“People can connect to the family thing,” Sams told FloRacing. “I had offers to drive other cars, which is a neat position for me to be in, but I turned them down because this is my 10-year-plus plan. And what’s cooler than to do it with your family? I sat back down with mom and dad and I told them, ‘We made it this far. Is this what you want to do?’ They said, ‘Absolutely, we don’t want to do anything else.”

Amidst a breakout 2024 campaign, Sams knew he wanted to hit the national level in 2025. Last year, he showed his worth with a career-high seven wins including a trio during Ohio Sprint Speedweek and then a weekend sweep over the IRA in Wisconsin.

“Through last year, we knew our goal was to be on a national tour going into 2025,” Sams said. “We didn’t know how we were going to do that financially, though. We knew we needed to be at the big races and turn the right heads to have a shot. We’ve had someone hop on board to give us that opportunity to take the next step.”

“With this backing, I feel like I can take more chances,” he added. “At the beginning of last year, we didn’t know how many raced we were going to run. As we did better, we had more opportunities to race more shows and I had more opportunities to try and make this bigger mover.

The freedom of Kubota High Limit Racing was a big selling point for the Elkhart, Indiana based team. While being a card-carrying member for 60 races, he’ll still have complete control over his outside schedule to compete as much as he wants. He’s already taken full advantage of that in February with an eye-catching performance against the World of Outlaws which included a QuickTime Award and a top-10 finish after tracking down Kyle Larson at front of the field.

“I more or less wanted to do what made the most sense for our team,” Sams recalled. “Being that we’re newer to the national tour, less series races, more free range to go race wherever we want, we felt like High Limit was the best option going into 2025. We broke down the money and everything. I feel like our best performance would come with High Limit.”

One of four contenders for the inaugural $5,000 Rayce Rudeen Foundation Rookie of the Year Award, Sams will be in a season-long fight with fellow newcomers like 20-year-old Texan Chase Randall, 20-year-old Oklahoman Daison Pursley, and 27-year-old Pennsylvanian Sye Lynch.

“A good year would be top-10 in points,” Sams said. “A great year would be better than that and Rookie of the Year honors.”

One of the biggest challenges to overcome is that Sams will visit 23 of the 35 tracks scheduled for the first time in his career – the most of any High Roller. He’ll make his first laps at Las Vegas, Tulare, Kern, Perris, Central Arizona, Vado, Route 66, Dodge City, Texarkana, Tri-City, Ransomville, Utica-Rome, Grandview, Port Royal, 141, Red Cedar, Eagle, Placerville, Silver Dollar, Douglas County, Skagit, Bridgeport, and Path Valley.

He’s won at two venues on the 2025 Kubota High Limit Racing calendar, and they happen to fall on the same weekend together. The final two dates of May will be worth keeping an eye on Sams’ #24D when the series hits Indiana’s Lawrenceburg Speedway on Friday, May 30 and Michigan’s Butler Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 31.

Sams’ 2025 campaign with Kubota High Limit Racing will begin at Las Vegas Motor Speedway one week from today on Thursday, March 13 before a $25,000-to-win event on Saturday, March 15. The 60-race tour will conclude with All-In Championship Weekend at Texas Motor Speedway on October 17 and 18. Tickets are available for purchase here.
